An excerpt …

(They wander away from the summer camp.)

SARA: (as two girls come into scene) We’ve got to keep going. It’s getting dark and this is really a large forest.

TRACY: I think we passed this tree already.

SARA: How can you tell?

TRACY: After passing it five times, we’ve become close friends.

SARA: Ughhh … We wouldn’t be lost if this compass wasn’t so stupid. Where’d you get it anyway?

TRACY: A box of Captain Cocoa Charms.

SARA: Tracy, when the summer camp list said “compass,” it didn’t mean the prize at the bottom of a cereal box! (throws compass off into the distance)

TRACY: I’m sorry! I had to pack in a hurry and I needed a compass, even one that didn’t work. Besides, don’t blame the compass, you have a really bad sense of direction.

(there are a lot of things to worry about)

SARA: What? So, your point is …

TRACY: This is a forest. Isn’t that where bears hang out?

SARA: Naw. There would be a sign that said, “Don’t feed the bears.”

TRACY: (stands) I don’t want to be the one that feeds the bears. Do bears eat little girls?

SARA: (stands) Hey, I’m not little!

TRACY: Yeh, you’re deliciously plump. I wonder … do bears attack with a lot of noise or would they sneak up on us.

SARA: Here we go!

TRACY: I bet they’re sneaky. They’ll wait until we’re unaware …

SARA: Good grief!

(Lost and Found)

SARA: (starts to walk toward Mr. Benson) Oh, thank you! We have been hopelessly (stops) … Wait. What?

TRACY: Camp is right over there?

SARA: And you could hear every single word that we said? (pause) Gosh, I feel soooooo stupid.

TRACY: You and me both. Well, at least I was right about one thing.

SARA: What?

TRACY: You have a really bad sense of direction! (she starts offstage to the left)

SARA: Tracy.

TRACY: (stops) What?

SARA: (points to stage right which is the direction they should exit)

TRACY: (sheepishly) Oh.

(They exit stage right)
