An excerpt …
A collection of poems from the book THE PLACE WHERE WE LIVE by Ken Bradbury.
(JIMMY SMEE COULDN'T SEE)
Jimmy Smee couldn’t see, but everyone all thought that he
Knew as much as anyone about the world he’d stumbled on.
Since birth he’d never seen a thing that other folks saw easily.
He’d never seen the brown on cows or viewed the blue of passing clouds.
He’d never knew what “yellow” meant (To us it seemed quite evident.)
(YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND)
“You just don’t understand,” she thinks as she shuffles her way down the aisle.
And she’s right, we don’t, we don’t have the time to stop … even pause for a while.
“She’s blocking the aisle. I can’t get around her,” we sniff as we huff right on past.
“I’m sorry, forgive me,” she smiles, she looks up, but we’re really too busy to chat.
